I worked on many different aspects of the VIP Pets animated series.
First, I redesigned the characters Fabio and Fabia. They were initially modeled based on the character design provided by the art director, but when the company decided to create a live-action show in parallel, in which actors would bring the characters to life, I was asked to create caricatures of them, adapting the existing models for the series.
On the other hand, we had to do a lot of redesigns of the characters' hairstyles; each character had three different hairstyles that they would sport in the episodes, depending on the story.
Some important props had to be designed because they were elements that didn't exist in the toy product, so I was in charge of shaping them. Perhaps the most interesting of all were Fabia and the VIP Pets' cell phones, as I had to design custom cases for each of them, as well as the user interface, since they communicate constantly via chat and video calls. I also drew a series of emojis that were used in both the animated series and the live-action version. Although it wasn't for the real world, I consider this my first interface design for a mobile messaging and calling app, as I had to consider many details that are close to what a real interface would be like.
One of the main locations in both the animated series and the live-action show is Fabio's hair salon. This setting is based on the product playset, which has a vanity and a capsule into which the doll is placed to be sprayed with glitter, which we call "Glitterizer." These elements are very important in the product, so I had to adapt them for the animated series.
Finally, something I really enjoy doing is designing the characters' costumes. This season, Fabia graduates from her studies and needed a special look for that day—a fun and sparkly look, very Fabia-esque.
